Clean Water is Our Passion

The ocean doesn’t ask what your board is made of. We do.

At TerraSurf, accountability doesn't begin when your board hits the water, but long before the first wave. It’s accountability in the way we source, the way we build, and the way we give back. Our mission is inseparable from the ocean itself: to protect the water we surf, and to ensure that every decision we make moves toward zero waste, zero harm, and a future worth paddling out into.

That commitment extends beyond the shaping bay. A portion of every TerraSurf sale is donated annually to the Surfrider Foundation. They are the foremost grassroots network dedicated to protecting ocean water, coastlines, and the right of every person to surf and swim in clean water. Through beach cleanups, science-based water quality monitoring, policy advocacy, and coastal restoration, Surfrider does the heavy lifting that keeps the ocean worth surfing. We are proud to be part of that effort.

One board. A measurable choice.

Every surfboard has a footprint. But the question is: “What kind of footprint does it have and how long does it linger?”

A conventional polyurethane board emits roughly 105 lbs of CO₂ in its lifecycle — before it ever touches the water. It is glassed with petrochemical resins classified as toxic to human health and marine ecosystems, and when its life is over, it goes to landfill, where it may persist for centuries and shed microplastics into the groundwater below. A TerraSurf board inverts that story entirely: it begins as a carbon-sequestering plant, is worked with chemistry that asks nothing harmful of the world, and returns to the earth without a lasting trace.

Founded in 1984 in Malibu, California, the Surfrider Foundation has spent over 40 years defending the coasts, the waterways, and the communities that depend on them. Their Blue Water Task Force runs the largest volunteer-run beach water testing program in the country, yielding over 10,000 samples annually across 600 locations. Their Ocean Friendly Gardens program filters millions of gallons of polluted runoff before it reaches the sea. Their legal and policy teams take on the fights that require more than goodwill to win. When you buy a TerraSurf board, you are part of that network.

Designing a better board was essential

I. CORE

Hand-Harvested Agave, from a Single Family Farm

Every board begins not with foam, but with a living story. At the heart of our construction is agave which is known to be a plant fiber of remarkable structural integrity, harvested in partnership with a family farm that has tended the land for generations. When the agave's towering flower stalks reach the end of their cycle, they are gathered and pressed into a remarkable strong and naturally buoyant raw board material.

Once matched with your shaper, a master craftsman, your specifications guide a board that is not manufactured but hand-crafted. Circular in conception, precise in execution, and entirely free of petrochemical foam. This is the quiet ocean revolution beneath your feet.

II. GLASS

Non-VOC Bio-Resin, Formulated in the USA

The glassing of a board is where most of the industry's toxicity hides. We chose a different path. Our bio-resin is 65% plant-derived and entirely free of synthetic Volatile Organic Compounds — the toxic agents responsible for the acrid fumes and long-term environmental burden of conventional surfboard production.

What protects your board protects your shaper, your shoreline, and the broader ecosystem it enters. We continue to push that plant-derived percentage higher in all of our offerings, determined to leave nothing but clean water in our wake.

III. FINISH

Plant-Based Styling, Graphics & Art

A TerraSurf board is a limited edition. Each one carries the option of original artwork, commissioned with our in-house artist DANKO, and executed in your choice of hand-applied plant-based paints or digitally rendered imagery from our stock board collection transferred through an eco-conscious lamination process. No solvents. No harsh chemistry. What meets the water is as pure as the water itself. Your board is not merely shaped; it is authored.
